International Study Students

The theme of strengthening health literacy in a community setting was the theme of the 2nd Winter School in cooperation with FH Gesundheitsberufe OÖ and Technische Hochschule Deggendorf

The 2nd year of the international winter school took place in the premises of the Gesundheitscampus in Bad Kötzting, Germany, from 5th February to 9th February. The Faculty of Health Care Studies of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen together with the German Technische Hochschule Deggendorf and the Austrian FH Gesundheitsberufe OÖ participated in its preparation and implementation.

Students participated in theoretical lessons and worked in international teams on their own projects on the topic of strengthening health literacy in community settings. They communicated completely in German language. A total of 17 students participated in the winter school, seven of them Czech from the fields of study Laboratory Diagnostics in Healthcare, Paramedical Science and Physiotherapy. They formed four international teams and during the final day they presented the projects they had been working on all week to the evaluation teams of the partner universities' representatives. The Czech students took on the presentation with enthusiasm, complete confidence and really did a tremendous job.

Vojtěch Panáček, a first year student of Paramedical Science, evaluates the winter school by saying: "Our group of seven went on a five-day stay in the spa town of Bad Kötzting. This intensive week was packed with lectures on various factors affecting our health to an amazing accompanying programme such as a trip to the aqua park or cooking together. However, the main focus of the whole week was the group projects that we created in mixed teams of Czech, Austrian and German students. The highlight was the presentation of our projects to the mayors and the project guarantors. I can only recommend it, an amazing experience and the winter school certainly helped to improve my German language level."

"The winter school in Bad Kötzting was a really great experience for me," adds Amálie Vašíčková, a third-year student of Physiotherapy, adding that the excellent organisation together with interesting lectures were among the advantages of the stay. "Every project in the different groups was well thought out. The only complication for us was the language, as most of us are not fluent in German. But our fears disappeared on the first day. The teachers were very helpful and answered all of our questions, the students from Germany and Austria helped us communicate in German, and in the end it turned into a beautiful collaboration," she comments on the course of the winter school.

We are very happy that students of the Faculty of Health Care Studies have joined this international project and we are already looking forward to next year's winter school!
