Students and employees of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen made a toast to the academic year of 2024/2025 and chose this year's best student band. All this under the friendly supervision of the university rector Miroslav Lávička, who personally welcomed them from the stage.

The new academic year 2024/2025 at UWB kicked off with the traditional event Rozproudíme univerzitu, which took place in the courtyard of the Pilsner Urquell brewery on Wednesday 18th of September. The event was attended by a large number of students from all faculties of UWB, and the first two thousand of them received free beer at the entrance.

The Rector of UWB Miroslav Lávička did not miss the informal welcome of students in the new academic year. After expressing his affection for music, especially metal music, he expressed his joy at the large number of participants and also at the fact that the University of West Bohemia was able to start teaching as originally planned, unlike some other education institutions in the country, which were affected by the flood in recent days. "Today's event is primarily a celebration of the new academic year. But let us not forget that studying also involves responsible performance of tasks. Students in their second and higher years should also help younger colleagues who are in their first years," the rector said towards the audience.

The Rozproudíme univerzitu event is a unique opportunity to meet old friends and make new contacts and friends. Music was played for the students in the courtyard of the brewery to get acquainted and make friends. Again this year, the participants were able to choose the best student band by the volume of applause in the competition of student and staff bands of the UWB. The third place went to the band Geronimo, the second place went to the band Broken.45 and the first place went to a band called Bonnie. The latter will return next year as the headliner of the event.

"I find it cool that people from different faculties meet here. I went to the event last year and this year I brought an extra classmate with me. It's also great that young people in student bands are given space here," said Iva, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Law, who was joined by Ramin, a third-year student of the Faculty of Engineering from Azerbaijan: "I like the event mainly because I can listen to underground bands and drink some craft beer."

There was also the opportunity to stop by the university merch stand on the brewery campus or get information on bone marrow donation options. At the booth, interested men and women could sign up for the donor registry right away.

You can see how the students enjoyed themselves during the afternoon and evening in the brewery courtyard in the photo gallery below.
