I know exactly where I went wrong, says Olympian Matěj Rampula from the Faculty of Applied Sciences

Sport Study Students

Matěj Rampula, a student of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and an Olympic athlete, talked not only about the Olympics, training, competition atmosphere, and other sporting goals during a meeting with the Dean of the Faculty Miloš Železný.

Matěj Rampula, a student of Software and Information Systems, had his first Olympic experience. Matěj specializes in rapid-fire and air pistol shooting. He competed in both disciplines at this year's Olympic Games, with rapid-fire pistol being his dominant discipline.

Unfortunately, it didn't turn out as he had hoped: "Expectations were higher than what I managed. I know exactly why I didn't hit as well as I wanted to. I had the wrong attitude," says Matej. If he could have done something differently in retrospect, he would have taken a better stance to avoid the mistake that he says threw him off. "I might also have gone home to train between disciplines because we might have trained less than we expected at the venue," he adds. The dean of the faculty Miloš Železný thanked Matěj for his excellent representation not only in sports but also for building the reputation of the faculty: "We are proud when such talented athletes are our students, and we are delighted to support them."

Matěj's races were held in Châteauroux, about three hundred kilometers from Paris. According to Matěj, the level and equipment of the shooting range there is comparable to the one in Pilsen, where Matěj trains.

Despite a slight disappointment with the result, the talented rifleman enjoyed the Olympics and its atmosphere. When asked which experience or moment resonated with him the most, he mentions the applause of the spectators after a successful item: "We are not used to spectators at all in shooting, and it was a nice change." His focus is now on the Academic World Championships, which will be held from November 9 to 13 in New Delhi, India.
