In the inter-university final round, the first prize went to the startup Farmiture by a pair of students from the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (FAV UWB), which develops design stands for the hydroponic growing of indoor plants and vegetables in the apartment. „Hydroponics, or growing in a nutrient solution without soil, is becoming increasingly popular, but there is a lack of equipment suitable for modern apartments on the market. We wanted to combine smart growing with modern interiors," Jan Dobrohruška and Martin Vacek presented their business idea.
Second place goes to the students of the Faculty of Economics (FEK UWB). Hours spent at lectures and the boom of sedentary jobs made them develop the idea for smart chairs. „Our Ergosenc chairs should work on a principle similar to a smartwatch or a smart ring. They sense the person sitting on them and give them feedback and suggestions on how to sit better," said Eduard Šuster, who started working on the idea with his classmate Lukáš Pilc.
„In the summer semester, we prepared several professional workshops for the teams, where the students gradually improved their business ideas and received feedback from experts and other participants. Thorough preparation and 100% commitment of the students were crucial for success in the national finals. It is no coincidence to have taken first place four times in the last four years," added Jiří Kutlák from the Center for Entrepreneurship and Sustainability, which organizes the competition on behalf of the university. Four teams from four faculties from UWB made it to the final round and took first, second, fourth, and fifth place out of a total of nine places.
In the previous two editions of the competition, the Faculty of Economics won first place with projects that overlap with the present. In 2023, students succeeded with the vending machine, which has been helping students on campus stave off hunger healthily for more than 1 year. Last year, the Destinisco project succeeded again with escape games that can adapt to players thanks to artificial intelligence. You can try the escape game for yourself in the center of Pilsen.
The Invest Day inter-university competition of business ideas has been organized by the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice since 2014, joined over the years by the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen and the Prague University of Economics and Business. The competition aims to encourage the spark of entrepreneurial and innovative ideas among young students and graduates of universities.
