Nuclear Days at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen will begin on Wednesday, 9 September, with the traditional two-day international conference held at the Faculty of Applied Sciences. This year’s theme is Nuclear Energy – A Path towards Europe’s Energy Self-Sufficiency. Students, university employees, and members of the public can register for the conference on the event website.

The program will once again include themed lectures and competitions for secondary schools, Company Days, and the traditional exhibition for the general public. The exhibition aims not only to explain nuclear energy in an accessible way but also to dispel some of the myths surrounding its use. Visitors will be able to see, for example, models of nuclear reactors, spent fuel containers, and a cloud chamber. The exhibition will be on display at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering until 15 October.

This year’s Nuclear Days will also commemorate 70 years of nuclear engineering in Pilsen. In 1956, a work team was formed in the former Škoda plant in Pilsen, tasked with building the first nuclear power plant in what was then Czechoslovakia. It was the predecessor of today's Škoda JS, which is the main partner of the event.
