The new sports facility on the UWB campus is versatile thanks to the surface used. "The artificial turf surface is suitable for multiple sports, so it can be used not only for basketball, volleyball, or futsal, but also for alternative games such as Frisbee. The court also features a rebound wall for individual training and a multifunctional timer," said Jaroslav Kovařík from the Department of Physical Education and Sport at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (UTS UWB). According to him, the lighting will allow the court to be used even in the winter months.
The first students will test the court at the beginning of the semester, which starts on September 15. UTS Director Jitka Marxová explained that the surface needs to be loaded before it can be fully operational. "Our goal is to get as many students here as possible so that they can start playing on the court and the surface can settle," she said.
The sports facility will also be open to the public through a reservation system. According to the university management, the terms of use, including fees, are currently being finalized. Martina Větrovská, bursar of the University of West Bohemia, added that the construction of the sports facility cost approximately CZK 15 million and the annual maintenance costs will reach just under CZK 100,000.
"When I took office as rector, this project was one of the first we began to prepare. Our goal was to build a new sports facility, and I am convinced that the university can be proud of this field. I look forward to students using it not only for classes but also in their free time," said UWB rector Miroslav Lávička. "The university is not only about education and science, but also about other activities, and sport is undoubtedly one of them," concluded the university rector.
