The new professional publication Criminalistics for Lawyers, which was co-created at the Faculty of Law of the UWB, focuses mainly on the methodology of police investigation and criminalistic tactics. According to a twelve-member team of authors from all four czech law faculties, these are the most important areas for lawyers who work in criminal law. However, they believe that the book will also be appreciated by the public.
The publication is intended to be used primarily in the teaching of criminalistics, forensic sciences and criminal law. This was also appreciated at the ceremonial launch of the professional book in Prague by the former rector of the Police Academy of the Czech Republic in Prague and university teacher Hana Bartošová: “Criminalistics has an irreplaceable position in our educational system. It is important that its teaching meets current requirements and is based on the high level of expertise of the authors who work in this field.” The former rector also co-launched the book.
In addition to Bartošová, the publication's launch at the end of October was attended by dozens of educators, practitioners and experts in criminalistics, criminal law and legal science. The guest of honour and the second godfather of the book was Michal Dlouhý, a former police officer, expert in the history of the gendarmerie and the spiritual father of the series Četnické humoresky. At the beginning, he recalled the words of the gendarmerie sergeant Flanderka, a character from the novel about the fate of the good soldier Švejk by Jaroslav Hašek: "Criminal science depends on cleverness and kindness." Regarding the publication Criminalistics for Lawyers, Dlouhý stated that it is characterized by high professionalism and erudition, which he said is due to the thoughtful composition of the team of co-authors.
The team of experts from the universities of Pilsen, Prague, Brno and Olomouc was selected and led by František Vavera, head of the Department of Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law of the UWB in Pilsen. They have been working on the book since 2016. According to Vavera, their intention was to present the entire subject of criminalistics briefly, precisely and clearly, in order to create a suitable tool not only for high school students, but especially for university students and at the same time to provide a suitable tool for practice itself.
Criminalistics as an independent scientific discipline has been known in its current form for more than 130 years. However, it has been developing for centuries. Individual methods of criminalistics are still continuously developing, especially in connection with scientific and technological progress, but also with legal regulation and legal thinking. The book Criminalistics for Lawyers was published by Aleš Čeněk Publishing House.
