The Seal of the City of Pilsen is awarded by the mayor to individuals who have contributed to the development of the city, its promotion, the protection of its rights and interests, or who have otherwise helped to enhance the prestige of Pilsen. Miroslav Holeček received the Seal of the City of Pilsen as a token of gratitude not only for his long and fruitful service as rector of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen from 2015 to 2023.
"I appreciate his enthusiasm for science, research, and new technologies, which he passes on with admirable energy to students, who are the foundation for a more educated and innovative future for our city," emphasized the mayor. "Thank you very much for the award. I appreciate that it was awarded to me for my lifelong work in science and teaching. It is wonderful to pass on not only knowledge, but also certain attitudes and the fact that it pays to play fair and honestly," said Miroslav Holeček, who currently serves as deputy director for development at the NTC Research Center at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.
Milena Majerová received it for developing and modernizing the Plzeň Sports High School, which she has been running for more than thirty years. "Her work is reflected in the excellent sporting results of her students in national and international competitions. Under her leadership, a number of students have made it into the Czech national team," said the mayor. Chuhei Iwasaki, who has been the chief conductor of the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra since 2021, also received the Seal of the City of Pilsen. "His extraordinary activities in the field of music bring a global dimension and the joy of creativity to the cultural life of our city. His work contributes significantly to the artistic growth of the orchestra and has a positive impact on its relationship with the Pilsen audience," emphasized Roman Zarzycký.
In addition, the mayor presented the City of Pilsen Award, which is given for significant scientific or artistic works based on the decision of Pilsen city councilors. As of October 28, 2025, the award belongs to Jiří Ferda, head of the Department of Imaging Methods at the University Hospital in Pilsen and vice dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Pilsen. "He is receiving the City of Pilsen Award for his extraordinary contribution to modern medicine, science, and education in Pilsen, which far exceeds the regional framework. His work saves human lives and pushes the boundaries of knowledge," explained Roman Zarzycký. Professor Jiří Ferda is one of the leading Czech and world radiologists. He is involved in the development of new examination methods and their implementation in clinical practice.
