Science meets art at the NANOART exhibition

Cooperation Public Exhibition

The unique NANOART exhibition linking science and art will be on display at the Study and Research Library of the Pilsen Region from July 4 to August 31, 2024.

From 4 July to 31 August 2024, the Study and Research Library of the Pilsen Region will host a unique exhibition NANOART, which will present a fascinating connection between science and art. The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between students of the Faculty of Design and Art Ladislav Sutnar and the NTIS (New Technologies for Information Society) research centre at the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.

Visitors will be able to admire prints created by students of the 2nd and 3rd year of the bachelor's degree in Graphic Design and Digital Media. Under the guidance of MgA. Tereza Kovářová, assistant professor of the studio, the students worked during the summer semester 2023/2024 on the design and production of acoustic panels inspired by the research on nanostructured thin-film materials carried out at the NTIS Centre.

The initial source of inspiration for the students' work was microscopic scans from NTIS laboratories. During the semester, the students were introduced to the principles of acoustics and the specifics of the printing technique of risography, which they then used to print the surface of the acoustic panels. The prints on display, prepared using the risography technique (digital high-speed printing system), will be used to print functional acoustic panels that will find their application directly in the NTIS laboratories.

The NANOART exhibition thus offers a unique opportunity to glimpse a world where scientific research and artistic creation are intertwined. It also shows how knowledge from the field of nanostructured materials can be translated into aesthetically impressive and functional objects.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on 4 July at 15:00 at the Study and Research Library of the Pilsen Region. The exhibition is free of charge for the entire duration.
