Students Press Release Achievements
Barbora Horáková from the Faculty of Design and Art created a unified visual identity for the kindergarten in Dýšina, Vít Kroužecký from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering explored the possibilities of 3D printing in the production of complex parts for the energy industry, and Petr Kocián and Jakub Klimeš from the Faculty of Applied Sciences worked on improving the lives of diabetic patients. They, along with 35 other students, made a name for themselves at the universities and in the region during the last academic year through their excellent final projects, participation in faculty research projects, or by actively shaping student life.
The UWB Rector’s Scholarship for outstanding academic results and excellent representation of the university in professional fields, amounting to 20,000 CZK, was awarded this year to ten UWB students. Another nine talented individuals were recognized by the Rector with a special scholarship for sports achievements, valued at 10,000 CZK. Among them were Olympians – archer Marie Horáčková and sport shooter Matěj Rampula.
"Every year, UWB acknowledges the extraordinary efforts of those students who do not see their studies merely as a duty, but as an opportunity to make a difference," says UWB Rector Miroslav Lávička. "We are pleased that most of the awardees view these special scholarships as an incentive to go further and try new things. At UWB, we provide students with ideal conditions for this," he added.
Projects with a positive impact on the region and the city were recognized by the Governor of the Pilsen Region and the Mayor of the City of Pilsen. In each category, ten students received a scholarship of 20,000 CZK. "Young people are the ones who shape our future. If they already know during their studies what they want to focus on, I consider it our duty to support them in this development. The Plzeň Region scholarships have been a traditional form of support for active university students since 2004. I believe that the support of those engaged in unconventional projects, sports, or volunteering will benefit us all. Investment in education always pays off," said Rudolf Špoták, Governor of the Pilsen Region.
"For the future of Pilsen, universities are one of the key areas. It is therefore in our mutual interest to create conditions in the city and on campus that are sufficiently attractive for young people. So that they either stay here permanently or come to Plzeň from other parts of the country to study. We are doing and will continue to do everything we can to achieve this," added the Mayor of the City of Pilsen, Roman Zarzycký.
The special scholarships are awarded annually by the University of West Bohemia together with the Pilsen Region and the City of Pilsen. The leadership of these institutions recognizes students of Pilsen's universities who represent their alma mater in scientific, cultural, or sports competitions, engage in extraordinary activities beyond their studies, and achieve excellent results.
