Representatives of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen competed against teams from four other universities in the university championship tournament. They fought against judokas from Brno University of Technology, Czech Technical University in Prague, Charles University in Prague, and VŠB-TUO in Ostrava. According to Tomáš Buriánek, head of the Pilsen team from the Institute of Physical Education and Sport of UWB, these were all very strong teams with extra-league judokas. However, the Pilsen team reportedly put up an incredibly combative performance.
"I had to rearrange the weight categories a bit, some of the guys were fighting in higher weight classes, but they coped with it bravely," praised team leader Buriánek. According to him, third place is a great achievement.
The bronze medals were taken home from the sports hall in Prague's Folimanka district by a team consisting of Vladimír Vondra from the Faculty of Law, Jakub Zvěřina from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, and Viktor Novotný, Jan Uherský, and Petr Pešek from the Faculty of Education.
This year's Czech Academic Judo Team Championship was won by the team from Charles University in Prague, with the silver medal going to the team from the Czech Technical University in Prague. The West Bohemian team shared third place with the Technical University of Ostrava. The organizers awarded two third places this year due to the high level of the teams and the very close results, according to a post by the Czech University Sports Association on social media.
