New spaces and modern equipment thanks to a grant

In 2023, the University of West Bohemia received a grant from the IROP programme of the Ministry for Regional Development – up to CZK 10 million for the renovation of its libraries. Thanks to the project "Revitalisation of library branches", the Education and Health Care Library at Klatovská Street has been completely modernised. Visitors can look forward to new library shelves, a modern lending desk and stylish study areas. New acoustic chairs, seating niches and mobile screens also await them in the library to make their studying experience as comfortable as possible.

Another part of the money from the project was spent on the revitalization of the Arts and Law Library in Sady Pětatřicátníků 16. The historic library building has had its historic windows replaced, preserving its original character while improving the energy efficiency of the building.

Thanks to the grant, both libraries are now more modern, more comfortable and ready to offer visitors the perfect place to study.

The Education Library of the University of West Bohemia was established on 1 April 1956 as the Central Library of the Higher School of Education with an initial fund of 65,000 volumes. This year, when the library celebrates its 68th anniversary, a significant change has taken place - the Health Studies Library has joined it, and together they now form the newly renovated Education and Health Care Library, open since this September.

What does the Education and Health Care Library offer, for example?

  • approximately 250,000 printed documents focusing on pedagogy, psychology, and more recently, medical disciplines, as well as social and natural sciences and sports. There are more than 40,000 titles in the free selection;;
  • an extensive collection of textbooks for primary and secondary schools;
  • for lovers of history and art, the library offers titles of historical value, including the oldest book  Sylva Qvadrilingvis Vocabvlorvm Et Phrasivm Bohemicae from 1598.

The Education and Health Care Library of UWB is there for those who are looking for study materials, scientific resources or modern technology for their projects.
