František Mach, Vice Dean for Science of FEL UWB, received the Creative Heroes Award in the 1:1,000,000,000 category, which focuses on the contribution of creative thinking and recognizes individuals whose work has the potential to fundamentally impact society and the environment.
He received this award not only for his scientific achievements and teaching activities, but also for his efforts to bring science to a wider public and to promote sustainable technological progress within the start-up companies nextdrop and nextcycle, which he founded with his students. The ceremony took place on 17 October at the Škoda Museum in Mladá Boleslav under the auspices of Prime Minister Petr Fiala.
The Creative Heroes Award is presented in five categories, reflecting the scale of impact of each project - from smaller initiatives to those that can affect millions of people.
The 1:1,000,000,000 category, won by František Mach, recognises innovations with the potential to bring about fundamental change on a global level. The award is organised by the Dutch-Czech Chamber of Commerce and the nominees are selected by a jury of 20. This is the third year of the award and previous winners include Josef Průša (Průša Research), Cyril Klepek (Cyrkl) and Stanislava Bezdíček Králová (Universität Wien).
"It is a great honour to be recognised among such inspiring personalities. I see the award as a motivation to continue research and development, to look for new technological solutions and to devote myself to what undoubtedly has a positive impact on our society - working with our students," said František Mach.
The award not only brings recognition and media attention to the winners, but also the opportunity to become part of a platform supporting further innovation with a positive impact. Wiegert Smallegange, Director of the Dutch-Czech Chamber of Commerce, which organises the Creative Heroes Award Czech Republic, adds:
"With this award we want to highlight individuals who help others with their creative ideas. They are helping people who are helping others with their creative ideas, either individually or by creating solutions that impact more people at the same time. This year's finalists are an example of this. Such people often remain in the background while we adore celebrities. But these creative heroes can be role models for us all. That's why we're giving them the award: to congratulate them on what they have achieved, to thank them for their contribution to society and to motivate them to keep going and be an example to others."
