The future of technical faculties was addressed by 120 experts at the FELAPO 2025 meeting

FAV FEL Conference

Funding of faculties, cooperation with industry, and evaluation of the results of the Alliance for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. These and other topics were addressed by more than a hundred experts at FELAPO 2025 meeting, which was organized by the Faculty of Applied Sciences.

From the development of science and research to the recruitment of new students, technology transfer, management and financing of faculties to marketing and PR activities - all this was addressed by representatives of 11 universities from the Czech and Slovak Republic from the ranks of deans, vice-deans, secretaries and PR staff at the event called FELAPO (Faculties of Electrical Engineering and Similar). This regular meeting aims to exchange experiences, share good practices, and openly discuss challenges facing universities of technical orientation.

"What does the future hold for us? The meeting results in concrete steps to be taken to increase the number of qualified specialists. One of them is, for example, to expand cooperation between universities to the level of linking study programmes. We also need to respond to the changing environment, changes in laws, and continuously raise awareness of opportunities for study and research in technical fields," said Miloš Železný, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences at UWB, who welcomed 120 colleagues from the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the event.

An essential point of the programme was also the evaluation of the Alliance for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science activities, which was established in 2023 to coordinate cooperation between faculties, sharing resources and know-how, and promoting innovation across technical disciplines. The chairman of the Alliance, Zdeněk Peroutka, dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at UWB, said: "Over the past year, the Alliance has established itself as a strong and respected partner across government, academia, and industry. We have succeeded in meeting our key objectives - the Alliance is now on a solid foundation and is perceived as a relevant partner of both government and industry. We actively engage in strategic debates on the shape of technical education and research in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In the coming period, we will build on our achievements and further strengthen the practical impact of our cooperation."

The meeting of representatives of universities associated under the acronym FELAPO took place from 12 to 14 May at the Orea Resort Horizont Šumava Hotel. A leisure programme was prepared for the participants through trips to Pancíř or the Nýrsko waterworks. There was also a social evening, during which an imaginary scepter was handed over to the future organizers of the conference. FELAPO 2026 will be organized by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the Technical University of Košice.
