In the course of its development, archaeology has developed a number of methods to study past landscapes. Using Polish solutions as an example, I will discuss the cognitive value of archaeological prospection and the problems posed by the acquisition of data by various methods. Do modern survey methods overcome the limitations of earlier methods? Does the use of a wider range of methods allow us to study past landscapes? These are just some of the questions I would like to discuss.
