The SDG Transformation SPACE presented its results at the conference Deutsche Bundesumweltstiftung
On January 24th and 25th, 2024, the event "Transformational Education for Sustainable Development - Shaping Change" took place at the Center for Environmental Communication of the Deutsche Bundesumweltstiftung (DBU) in Osnabrück.
The event at the DBU, the German Federal Environmental Foundation, concluded the project cluster "Great Transformation - Sustainability Dilemmas and Uncertainty Management." The conference served not only to present the results but also to look into the future: together with the participants, themes for a new call for proposals in the field of transformational education were discussed.
The first day commenced with opening remarks by the Secretary-General of DBU, Alexander Bonde, and Dr. Jens Brandenburg, the State Secretary leading the National Platform for Education for Sustainable Development in Berlin. This was followed by two keynote speeches, after which all 15 projects funded under the aforementioned call were introduced. The conference was attended by more than 150 participants.
The "SDG Transformation SPACE" project ran from July 2021 to June 2023 and was a joint project of the Faculty of Economics at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen and the partner institution OTH Amberg-Weiden. The Faculty of Economics project was one of the 15 nationwide projects funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation DBU. After a brief introduction of the project's goals and results, an open discussion took place in the foyer, where posters of all 15 implemented projects were displayed. The application of the new didactic method "Open Space," international target groups, and the results of a total of 4 cross-border semester courses implemented in the project attracted great interest. New contacts for possible future cooperation were established during the discussion on the project's results. The project is now in the Follow-Up phase, where we hope to have sparked the interest of more than 100 young people from both sides of the border who are now addressing sustainability dilemmas in their bachelor's or master's theses or in other projects.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in and supported our project.
