The symposium will offer an opportunity to approach this topic historically, i.e. to focus on the transformations of theoretical, but also culturally accepted or institutionally realized understandings of the assumptions, nature, characteristics, goals or meaning of art. At the same time, the symposium will encourage attempts to think about this topic systematically, to try to establish boundaries or distinctions between art and the non-art sphere, either within a particular culture or in a broader context. From a historical and systematic point of view, however, there is also the possibility of denying or at least questioning and relativising the separability, distinction or difference between art and the non-art sphere. The symposium aims to become an environment in which different approaches to the chosen topic are brought into productive dialogue.
Possible topics of contributions at the symposium include:
" Art in the context of culture, the variability of cultures and the position of art in them
" Art as inspiration, craft, technique and knowledge
" Singularity and repetition, genealogy and singularity in art
" The origin and disintegration of a work of art: idea and sketch, fragment and torso
" Environment and context of art: engagement and autonomy, dutifulness and independence
" Concealment, inconspicuousness, invisibility and the imposition of art
" The artwork as object, environment and atmosphere
" Permanence and ephemerality, permanence and changeability of the work of art
" Artificial and natural, life, growth, decay and death in art
" The intentional and the accidental in art, order and liveliness
" Individual, collective and anonymous in art
