The University as an Opportunity series of talks from organised by the Faculty of Arts last autumn, will close in May for this academic year. Hostem diskusního setkání, které se uskuteční v úterý 7. Journalist, editor and political commentator Jindřich Šídlo has worked for the weekly Respekt, Mladá fronta DNES, Hospodářské noviny and Czech Television, and currently hosts the satirical programme Št'astné pondělí on the Seznam Zprávy portal. In Pilsen, Jindřich Šídlo will debate current issues of the Czech media landscape. He will also talk about the importance of humanities and social science education in cultivating public space.

The discussion, entitled University as an opportunity to get to know the media world, will conclude the cycle that has been running at the University of West Bohemia throughout the academic year. Guests of the meeting were journalist Erik Tabery, biochemist Martin Fusek, sociologist Dušan Lužný and japanologist Roman Kodet.  Discussions focused on the importance of the humanities, education, science and the general functioning of modern societies in the 21st century will continue in the next academic year.
