Sutnarka opens its studios to applicants. Open House attracts visitors with art and technology

FDU Press Release Applicant

The Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia will once again open its doors to the world of art and design. On Friday, November 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., applicants will have the opportunity to visit studio and discuss their portfolios.

All twenty-one studios of the faculty will be open to prospective students of the FDU UWB and their companions. Applicants will be able to consult their portfolios directly with teachers and find out the requirements for talent exams. A wide range of fields is on offer, from painting to product design to animation. The faculty will also open its technical workshops and laboratories, and the printing workshop, 3D lab, photography studios, animation studio, and multilab will be accessible.

The open house is preceded by the October DEMO entrance exams, which are becoming more and more popular every year. Applicants can try out the conditions and atmosphere of the admission process. "They also have the opportunity to better assess whether a given field is right for them. Based on feedback from teachers, they can then work on their portfolio, eliminate any weaknesses, and prepare more thoroughly for the talent exams, which significantly increases their chances of being accepted," explained Marta Kollerová, Vice-Dean for Academic and Pedagogical Affairs at FDU UWB. Three hundred applicants tried out this year.

At the DEMO entrance exams, the greatest interest was in the three studios that usually attract the most applicants. "Based on the latest statistics, the studios that attracted the most attention were Animation, Media Illustration, Graphic Design and Visual Communication, Comics, and Illustration for Children," added Marta Kollerová.

The Open Day program includes three information sessions (at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.), where interested parties can learn details about the admissions process, the structure of the program, and career opportunities for graduates. They will also find out how the faculty supports the individual development of students, cooperation between disciplines, and participation in international projects and exhibitions. Current students will also share their experiences, describing life in the studios, preparing for exhibitions, teamwork, and opportunities for study abroad.

The Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art is one of the most prominent art colleges in the Czech Republic. Last year, 876 people applied to study there, but each studio only accepts the 10-15 best applicants. Applications can be submitted until the end of November, with talent tests scheduled for early January 2026. More information about the admission process is available on the website. The other eight faculties of the University of West Bohemia will open their doors to applicants at the end of January 2026, on January 26 in Cheb, January 27 in Pilsen, and January 28 in Karlovy Vary.
