Alliance of Electrical Engineering and IT Faculties aims to boost field interest and innovation

Cooperation Press Release Science

Sixteen Czech and Slovak faculties of electrical engineering and IT established the Alliance for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (the Alliance) on Wednesday, May 15. The Alliance is led by the dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at UWB Zdeněk Peroutka.

According to the latest statistical data, more than 10,000 specialists in the fields of electrical engineering and computer science are currently missing in the Czech Republic and Slovakia alone. This shortage is already paralyzing and threatening the development of strategic industries. The newly established Alliance for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science will therefore seek ways to support the interest of applicants and thereby increase the number of graduates in these socially critical professions.

"We are aware that a joint and unified approach in the promotion and popularization of technical education can effectively target an increase in the interest of high school students in technical fields, which is crucial for ensuring the next generation of experts needed for the industrial sector and the national economy," said the elected president of the Alliance and dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of West Bohemia, Zdeněk Peroutka. He then continued: "The Alliance unites and allows the joint use of unique resources and technologies that the members of the Alliance possess. By signing the memorandum, we clearly declare our intention to cooperate, present a unified front, and systematically strive for European leadership, both in research and development as well as in education."

The Alliance also includes the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of West Bohemia, which has taken on the organization of the next meeting of the Alliance and the group of these faculties. "In the group of electrical engineering and similar faculties from all over the Czech Republic and Slovakia, we have been meeting under the name FELAPO for many years. The establishment of the Alliance was a logical outcome of our efforts to raise the profile of our fields. I believe that the activities of the Alliance will also be welcomed by the partner companies of our faculties, which are struggling with a shortage of experts," says the Dean of FAV, Miloš Železný, who is also one of the signatories of the memorandum.

The Alliance aims to use its competencies and the modern equipment of its member faculties to attract new investors to Central Europe. These investors will contribute to the transfer of cutting-edge technologies (such as semiconductor chips) and the creation of new highly skilled jobs. "By signing the memorandum, we clearly declare our intention to cooperate and present a unified front," added the president of the Alliance.

The vice-president of the Alliance has been elected as the dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Vladimír Kutiš. "The current era is characterized by great dynamics of change and the introduction of new technologies and innovations in technical fields, especially in computer science and cybernetics, with overlap into electrical engineering. Technical universities and faculties, which operate in the field of education, science, research, and innovation in these areas, are intensively aware of the demands of industrial partners in educating the new generation of experts. The establishment of the Alliance for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is intended to be a platform that will represent the university sector in communication with industrial partners, relevant ministries in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, as well as with secondary schools," concluded dean Vladimír Kutiš.

The sixteen founding members of the Alliance are the following faculties:
