A fairy tale about Honza and the princess on a nano-play, engineers as an endangered species or an application for predicting traffic situations in cities. On 11 October, five personalities from the technical units of ZČU presented their research in a novel way in the Techmania in Pilsen.

PechaKucha Night is an inspirational evening in the 20x20 format: 20 slides of presentation, where the speaker has 20 seconds for each of them. And that this can be a quick and clear introduction to the world of quantum technologies, as well as to specific corners of engineering and other fields, was proven to the visitors of the 47th evening organized in this format and dedicated to science. The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (ZČU) was also present on several occasions.

Ivana and Miroslav Zetek from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering shared their experience of a scientific marriage, in which both spouses jointly direct their efforts towards obtaining patents and new enthusiastic students. Šárka Houdková, a specialist in hot spraying, has also remained in the field of engineering and, in addition to her position as scientific director of the Research and Testing Institute in Pilsen, she also works at ZČU in two units: the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the NTC Research Centre. The latter was represented by Miroslav Holeček, Rector Emeritus of ZČU, who introduced the audience to the mysterious world of quantum technologies. And geomatics expert Karel Jedlička from the Faculty of Applied Sciences reminded how thanks to university research, the city of Pilsen can predict traffic situations, for example in the case of road closures. In addition to them, six other personalities from the Pilsen region presented themselves at Techmania.

"Engineering has changed significantly since its beginnings. Now Generation Z and Alpha are entering the scene and our mission is to show them engineering in a way that is attractive to them. We are introducing them to new possibilities and technologies that contribute to a sustainable future and that even the space station cannot do without today," explained Miroslav Zetek.

Miroslav Holeček from the NTC commented on his presentation: "Some of the properties of quantum behaviour resemble almost magical spells. Therefore, I thought that I could present their basic features in the form of a fairy tale to make them as comprehensible as possible for the audience," he summarized.

In addition to the traditional team from the association k světu., the Pilsen Region also participated in the organisation of PechaKucha Night at the Techmania Science Center with the Get Smart project. At the same time, the association "k světu." completed its last "Pecha" and handed over the scepter to the new organizing team.
