FZS will support healthy pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and self-care with lectures

The project will offer eleven meetings for pregnant and breastfeeding women, women planning pregnancy and future midwives. It will increase their health literacy.

Movement in pregnancy and postpartum, care of the scar after cesarean section, alcohol consumption and smoking, healthy lifestyle... These and other topics will be the focus of 11 lectures for the public prepared by the Faculty of Health Care Studies of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. It has launched the project Supporting Healthy Pregnancy, Childbirth, Breastfeeding and Self-Care, which is aimed at pregnant and breastfeeding women, women planning pregnancy and students - future midwives. It will introduce them to topics focused on healthy lifestyles during pregnancy and motherhood in the context of breastfeeding. An equally important goal of the project is prevention through educational activities and prevention of risky behaviour during pregnancy and motherhood.

The project's principal investigator is Alena Lochmannová, Vice-Dean for Internal and External Relations of the Faculty of Health Care Studies, and the expert guarantor is gynaecologist Lukáš Prajka. A total of 11 lectures will be held. Each of them will present one main topic during a two-hour block, which will include practical training and the opportunity to ask questions. The lectures will be given by a number of expert lecturers.

The first lecture "Maternal Movement in Pregnancy and the Postpartum Period" will take place on Monday 27 May from 15:00 to 17:00 in classroom HJ 305 in the FZS building at Husova 11. It will be led by the lecturer Ilona Zahradnická.

The second lecture "Care of the scar after caesarean section" will take place on Monday 3 June from 15:00 to 17:00 in room HJ 200a, again in the building of the Faculty of Health Care Studies, under the guidance of lecturer Iva Hereitová.

The following lectures will cover a range of topics related to increasing health literacy - alcohol consumption and smoking during pregnancy and motherhood, fetal alcohol syndrome, introduction to healthy and nutritionally balanced diet, self-care, hygiene and relaxation as the basics of a healthy lifestyle. Other topics will include promoting a healthy lifestyle and self-care in the postpartum period, breastfeeding and preparation for breastfeeding in pregnancy, and proper handling of the newborn to promote healthy psychomotor development. Participants will also learn about promoting mother-infant contact through touch and aromatherapy to prevent health complications, gentle care of the newborn in the areas of sleep, emptying, skin care, nutrition and contact parenting, and physiotherapy methods suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

The project "Support for Healthy Pregnancy, Childbirth, Breastfeeding and Self-Care", 82/24/PPZ, is implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic, Health Promotion, Increasing the Efficiency and Quality of Health Care Programme.
