UWB Campus' self-cervice container shop offers more than 400 Goods. It is the first of its kind

Press Release University Public

Students and employees of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (UWB) can now shop on campus at Bory in the evenings or on weekends thanks to a self-service container store. It will be operating twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

Bakery goods, deli meats, chilled beverages, and popsicles - all this and much more can be found in the container store Samoška 24/7, where customers are able to enter at any time with the help of a QR code. The store in the Czech Republic is unique in terms of its solution, environment, and assortment. "We are pleased that the first university container self-service store is right here with us. We are constantly working to offer better services to both students and employees on campus," said UWB Rector Miroslav Lávička.

The project was prepared by Department of Cybernetics at the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of West Bohemia with the  P.V.A. systems company, which team includes graduates of this faculty. "Before the first entry, it is necessary to download the DoKapsy application once and register using bank identity. Then, entry is made using a QR code or chip cards. People will find instructions directly on the container," explains Radek Nachtmann, CEO of P.V.A. systems. Due to the need for bank identity for registration, only persons over 18 years old will be allowed inside.

"Students from the faculty are also involved in the development of smart store technologies," added Luboš Šmídl from the Department of Cybernetics at the Faculty of Applied Sciences. They are currently working, for example, on a system for automatic recognition of goods in the checkout area.

Food and toiletries prices will be standard commercial; the purpose of the university self-service store is not to generate profit but to improve services on campus and test technologies and solutions used. P.V.A. company and the Department of Cybernetics at FAV will use the data for further development. The food supplier is MAKRO CASH & CARRY.

Considering the end of the semester and fewer people on campus over the summer, foods with longer shelf life will currently be available. "However, students and employees of UWB can influence the composition of the offered goods themselves - there will be a feedback form and suggestions for the assortment," concluded the quaestor Petr Beneš.
