The multi-year OP JAK: Zdivočelá země project is now about halfway through. It aims to create a virtual reconstruction of the site as it looked around 80 years ago. The researchers also want to preserve a record of both its present-day and historical appearance for future visitors.

Today, the remains of the Rolava site include reinforced-concrete frames of buildings and machinery foundations, hoppers still containing unprocessed ore, and a thickening tank. The site has survived in remarkably good condition, partly because it was located in a heavily guarded border zone under the former communist regime.

On Saturday, the 3rd of October, archaeologists and mechanical engineers will be working on site. Journalists and members of the public interested in the area's history are warmly invited to join them.
