We would like to invite you to an international symposium focused on Venus from the perspective of archaeology, philosophy, art theory and contemporary art. The event will bring together leading experts from various fields to present fascinating perspectives on this iconic motif.
The programme includes thematic blocks:
Day One (9 April):
Venus of Věstonice and Archaeology in Art
The Venus in art history and philosophy
Presentation of student projects
Second day (10 April):
Venus today - images of femininity in contemporary art
Queer perspectives and the appropriation of femininity
Other student presentations
Among the distinguished speakers will be Jiří Svoboda (Institute of Archaeology of the CAS), Jan Bažant (CAS) and Martina Pachmanová (UMPRUM).
The symposium will offer a unique opportunity to understand the meaning and transformations of the image of Venus from prehistory to the present, including feminist interpretations and alternative representations.
Admission is conditional upon registration via the registration form.
The Venus Today project is supported by the Statutory City of Pilsen and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
