The Faculty of Education is preparing structural changes for the new year. The current Department of Pedagogy will be replaced by three new units due to the growing number of students and the need for more specialized teaching.

The three new departments at the Faculty of Education of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen are designed to better target specific pedagogical and teacher-training fields. Starting January 1, 2026, the Department of Pedagogy and Didactics (KPG) will provide common core pedagogy and didactics courses for students across the faculty. The Department of Special and Inclusive Pedagogy (KSG) will be responsible for teaching special pedagogy, while the Department of Primary and Pre-primary Pedagogy (KPR) will focus on educating future teachers for primary schools and kindergartens.

"Splitting athe department, which is large in terms of staff and diverse in pedagogical and didactic topics, will allow us to better respond to teaching needs and to foster creative activity in each area. The new structure will enable greater specialization, clearer organization and better support for our students," explained Pavel Mentlík, Dean of the Faculty of Education.

All three new departments will remain temporarily in the current Department of Pedagogy’s premises on the 5th floor of the UL building on the UWB campus. This is due to the ongoing renovation of the faculty building at Chodské náměstí, which will offer more modern facilities once completed.

The organizational changes are based on the approval of the new Statute of the Faculty of Education by the Academic Senate. They will take effect from the New Year and will affect all students and teachers within pedagogical study programs.
