Tonda has always wanted to study law: "I have always been attracted to it and since I was a child I wanted to be a lawyer, even though I didn't know what it entailed," he said. He found the profession interesting and prestigious. So he applied to the Faculty of Law of the UWB.
According to student Antonín Knittich, the study of law could be compared to an action film. He describes the Faculty of Law at the University of West Bohemia (FPR UWB) as a dynamic and creative environment that will not bore students. Read our interview with Tonda, who is currently in his fifth year of his Master's degree:
- What surprised you more on your first day at university—the difficulty of the subjects or the price of lunch in the cafeteria?
Probably the price of lunch in the canteen, it's fine for students. I think the subjects are reasonably difficult, and if one doesn't underestimate the preparation, it doesn't happen that one is surprised.
- If you had to describe your field as a movie genre, would it be a thriller, comedy, or sci-fi?
An action film, because at FPR it's dynamic, creative and you never get bored.
- What's your best survival trick for exam season?
Plenty of time to prepare and get a good night's sleep, which is not always possible, but you have to try.
- What was your biggest "I see" moment during your studies? Is there something you wish you had known in your first year?
Probably none. I got exactly what I wanted from the studio, so I didn't have any "I see" moments.
- If you could give your first-year self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Let him take all that is offered to him from his studies, let him go conscientiously to lectures and seminars, and let him enjoy it, because it will pass quickly.
- Imagine you have 30 seconds to convince a prospective student to choose your faculty. What would your "ad" sound like? I would certainly appeal to the fact that nobody needs to be afraid of this, because studying law is not just about learning paragraphs. Our faculty prepares students for practice as well. There is also a family environment here, we belong to the smaller faculties of the University of West Bohemia, and perhaps the relationship with the teachers is definitely more personal.
- What’s the biggest myth about university studies that you’d like to debunk?
Perhaps I should follow up on my previous answer and mention the myth that in law school one learns only paragraphs.
- What was the most interesting debate you had during your studies? And did you manage to come to a conclusion at all?
I don't think I can single out a specific case. Sometimes, of course, you are surprised by what people think of, but over time you stop wondering. Human imagination simply knows no bounds.
Studying during the day or late-night cramming?
A nighttime spanking, but then I have to sleep longer. Of course, the ideal is to study all day, but maybe I'm more productive at night.
Cafeteria or instant noodles?
Instant noodles, it's faster for me.
Front row in a lecture or in the back by the power outlet?
In the middle (laughs). It seems ideal to me - it's quiet and you can hear well at the same time.
Group projects or doing everything solo?
I prefer to be alone, I don't like to rely on others (laughs). But I think that group projects shouldn't be missing either, because after graduation you are often forced to work in groups.
Oral or written exams?
Oral. On paper, we have limited room to sell ourselves. Some people are comfortable with that, but I'm comfortable with oral exams.
Early exam or last-minute?
Definitely an early deadline, because I like to work quietly and I like to have enough time for everything, I don't like to leave things to the last minute.
