Design, Create, and Print Your Own Jewelry or Component – Invitation from the FME

Further Education FST High school students

This year, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is adding a new offering to its lineup of summer schools: 3D Print Camp – a course in modeling and printing for all creative high school students. From August 25 to 29, they will have the chance to try out the roles of both designer and engineer

Design your own jewelry, fashion accessory, or part for your gaming setup – and then print it using a 3D printer. That’s the opportunity offered by the 3D Print Camp summer school, organized for the first time this year by the Department of Machine Design at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.

During the last week of August, high school students will first learn the basics of 3D modeling – how to work with space, objects, and shapes. Then they’ll move on to creating their own designs, learning how to translate them into digital form and prepare them for printing. They'll also learn how 3D printers work, what materials are used, and what can be printed. Participants will get a behind-the-scenes look at the labs where 3D printing and other technologies are developed.

“We want to show participants how they can turn their creative ideas into real objects,” said Zdeněk Chval, Head of the Department of Machine Design. “We welcome students who are excited about designing and creating their own original products using modern and sustainable technologies,” he added.

The summer school will take place at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering on the university campus, giving high schoolers the chance to experience the same environment where educational and research activities take place throughout the year.

The participation fee is CZK 2,000 (includes lunch, materials, and expert support).

Interested students can apply through the 3D Print Camp summer school website by June 30.

In addition to 3D Print Camp, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is also organizing another summer school this year – eNCéčko, which will run from July 21 to 25. Participants will learn both basic and advanced techniques in CAM software, try hands-on CNC machine programming, see what CNC programming looks like in practice, and gain valuable experience from industry experts. The eNCéčko summer school is intended for students in the 3rd and 4th years of high school.
