A student confided a psychological problem. The Ombudsman offered help, the police intervened too

A 21-year-old UWB student is suspected of preparing the murder. However, he was aware of the gravity of the situation, so he confided his fantasies of killing someone to the university's ombudsman in time. He offered help to the student, who accepted it. Later, the police had to intervene.

"It turns out that the establishment of the Department of Security and the position of ombudsman were the right way to go at the ZČU. We want students and staff to continue to use and trust these avenues. Thanks to trust in the university, it is possible to prevent risky situations that could otherwise have turned out completely differently," said Miroslav Lávička, rector of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.

The student, who is aware of his poor mental state, came to the staff of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (UWB) asking for help. Building the trust of students and staff in university professionals, which includes the ombudsman, the counselling centre and the security department, is a priority for the University of West Bohemia. "We have not confirmed the information that has started appearing in some media today and cannot verify its veracity. That is a matter for the police. We urge that any dissemination of unsubstantiated reports undermines this fragile trust and may lead to much more serious consequences in the future," said UWB spokeswoman Andrea Čandová.
