At the end of 2024, the National Centre Against Organized Crime of the Criminal Police and Investigation Service (NCOZ SKPV) organized another year of a week-long internship for a selected group of students, as part of its long-term and exclusive cooperation with the Faculty of Law at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (FPR UWB). The students had the opportunity to visit the central office in Prague or some of the regional branches.
The students were individually assigned to various departments within the unit, allowing them to experience different forms of work carried out by the officers of the NCOZ SKPV. They participated in a videoconference, during which they learned more about the core activities of the organizational units within the department focused on supporting the operations of the NCOZ SKPV. Mentors from within the unit explained in detail the workings of the NCOZ SKPV, provided anonymized information from practice, and allowed some students to participate in specific tasks. During the internship, students worked on a case assigned to them, which was then evaluated by their mentor.
The internship helped students of FPR UWB connect their theoretical knowledge of criminal law gained during their studies with practical, real-world insights, with a particular emphasis on the practical examples presented by the officers of the unit. "The students consider the internship to be a very unique experience, which opened new horizons for their future careers. They also highlighted gaining insight into the actual functioning of the NCOZ SKPV, which provided them with a better understanding of the activities of the Czech Police in criminal proceedings," said Vilém Knoll, the Vice-Dean for Science and Research at FPR UWB.
