The University of West Bohemia (UWB) first offered the property at Tylova 59 in 2022, attracting immediate interest from several potential buyers. However, formal deficiencies were found in the documentation, which needed to be addressed before the sale could proceed. These issues have since been resolved, and it is now possible to sell the surplus building at Tylova 59. "The management of WBU has decided to pursue a public tender for the most suitable offer. We anticipate significant interest in the property this time around as well," says ZČU Rector Miroslav Lávička.

The then-management of WBU purchased the Škoda, a.s. company headquarters building in 2010 with plans for renovation and creating new facilities for selected faculties. At that time, the university had 19,000 students, necessitating the search for new facilities. Now, 14 years later, ZČU has 12,000 students. "Although we expect the number of students at ZČU to increase by several thousand in the future, the building has already lost its utility for us. The university has also invested in its other facilities in recent years and built new facilities for faculties and research institutes on campus, providing state-of-the-art amenities," says Rector Miroslav Lávička.

According to the current expert appraisal commissioned by WBU, the current market value of the property is CZK 174.6 million. The university's leadership aims to sell the building for the highest possible amount. If the university does not receive a suitable offer, the sale will be postponed.

The property at Tylova 59 is currently vacant. The building is located within inner-row development, comprising four above-ground and two underground floors. The attractiveness of the investment lies in its extensive spaces with good civic amenities nearby and excellent accessibility to the center of Pilsen. Given its location within an industrial area, it represents an interesting investment, particularly for light manufacturing, storage spaces, or other potentially multifunctional uses. Additionally, the adjacent Emil Škoda Square is slated for significant transformation into a fully-fledged urban neighborhood with residential units, shops, and offices.

The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen aims to focus its investments on its buildings along tram line No. 4, which runs from the Bory campus, home to three technical faculties, the Faculty of Economics, and the Faculty of Design and Art, through Klatovská and Tylova streets to properties in downtown Pilsen. As a priority action, it now sees the reconstruction of two buildings on Chodské Square, where the Faculty of Education is located.
