UWB Trains in Project Preparation for Horizon Europe

Seminar Public Employees

The Project Center at the University of West Bohemia (UWB) offered current know-how in the formulation and process of preparing project proposals for the Horizon Europe grant program to interested parties from UWB and partner institutions.

The Project Center seminar "Preparation of Horizon Europe Project Proposals at UWB: Common Mistakes and Lessons Learned," held on May 29, was attended by participants from various UWB departments and partner institutions. Based on an analysis conducted by the Project Center, experts from the center introduced attendees to examples of recurring deficiencies in project proposals. Subsequently, appropriate methods and ways to avoid these errors were presented in each discussed area.

The discussion focused on the correct formulation of objectives in relation to project calls, the formulation of project ambitions, the importance and methods of setting measurable indicators, and how to approach aspects such as interdisciplinarity, citizen involvement, and other required project elements. Specific attention was given to shortcomings and tips for effectively managing the project preparation process. The meeting was enriched by insights from several attending researchers who shared their project preparation experiences. An important contribution was also made by the presence of UWB library staff, who provided information about their services in the areas of open science and data management.

Additionally, representatives from the Project Center introduced new services, such as a new initiative of the university network for international projects.

The Project Center is already planning a follow-up seminar for November 2024. As lecturer Lenka Strnadová confirmed, "There are many aspects in which project proposals can be further improved. Therefore, this seminar focused only on sharing best practices in the formulation of the Excellence part of project proposals. However, attendees can already look forward to follow-up events where we will focus on other parts, specifically Impact and Implementation." Information about the upcoming event will be distributed in a timely manner through all UWB communication channels.

Presentations and materials from the meeting are available on the Project Center's Alfresco Site.

The event was supported by the Advisory Center for International Cooperation in Research, Development, and Innovation project.
