Pupils of the Gymnasium František Křižík visited the Faculty of Health Care Studies

Cooperation Study Students

Thanks to the cooperation with the Regional Chamber of Commerce in the Pilsen Region, the group from the first year of study got to know the teaching and study fields of the Faculty of Health Care Studies of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.

Introducing pupils to non-medical study programmes was the aim of the second workshop, which took place at the Faculty of Health Care Studies of the UWB in cooperation with the Regional Chamber of Commerce on 14th March 2024. The programme for first-year pupils of the Gymnasium František Křižík in Pilsen was developed in cooperation with the Department of paramedic science, medical diagnostics studies and public health and the Department of nursing and midwifery.

The workshop began with a visit to the simulation centre, whose teaching equipment was presented by students of the Paramedical science course, followed by a demonstration of first aid, which also involved pupils of the gymnasium.

This was followed by a visit to the professional classroom for nurses at the premises of the Faculty of Health Care Studies, for which students of General nursing prepared a presentation on proper hand hygiene, and the next part of the programme was devoted to practicing hygienic hand disinfection, which the pupils were able to try out themselves. The workshop continued with the topic of ECG and heart diseases. A selected pupil of the gymnasium tried the ECG machine on his own, the presentation also covered the registration for ECG and the explanation of the pathological values. The block in this specialist classroom was concluded with a demonstration of a mock AED and the use of an oximeter.

At the end of the workshop, the pupils moved to the anatomy classroom where they learned about the Faculty of Health Care Studies and the admission procedure. This was followed by a presentation of the exhibited plastinates of the torso, upper limb and lower limb and a demonstration of the interactive autopsy table, again with the opportunity to try it out.

The biggest reward for the Faculty of Health Care Studies was the satisfaction of the pupils with the programme and their active participation. Of course, we will be very happy if some of them become our students in the future.

We are already looking forward to the next planned workshop!
