Summer, art and fun. Join us for ArtCamp

Further Education International Public

Three weeks in July will once again be dedicated to art courses at the Sutnar Faculty. Despite high demand this year and places filling up quickly, there is still plenty to choose from. In fact, more than forty courses will take place this summer.

Jewellery design, storyboard, photography, virtual reality and much more. The ArtCamp summer school at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art combines art, education and fun in one handy package.

"This year, ArtCamp celebrates its 20th anniversary, just like the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art. Our summer school stands out in the Czech Republic for its wide range of courses and broad profile," says Vojtěch Aubrecht, dean of the faculty. "Over the course of three weeks, ArtCamp brings together dozens of renowned national and international teachers with a diverse group of participants, enabeling the teachers to share their expertise while also fostering the creative potential of the participants. ArtCamp embodies the joy of creation, individual growth, and encountering a stimulating environment," says the dean.

The week-long courses can be combined to create your own tailor-made summer programme. The programme is open to those who enjoy art as a hobby and for fun, as well as those who are already involved in art or want to take it further. The only requirement is that you must be over 15 years old.

This year's ArtCamp will take place from 8 to 26 July. Applications for the summer school are open until 31 May, but as the courses fill up quickly, we recommend that you do not wait too long. Employees of the University of West Bohemia are eligible to a 10% discount – please write "UWB" in the notes when filling out the registration.

"We are, of course, very pleased with the great interest in the summer art courses. It confirms ArtCamp´s firm position among many educational and leisure activities offered within the university and the Czech Republic. It is also attractive for international participants," remarks Lenka Kodýtková, the summer school´s executive director. "This year's new additions include courses in calligraphy, typography, landscape painting and a course focusing on artificial intelligence. Guest artists will come from Japan, Belgium and Israel, among other countries," she continues.

Although many of the courses filled up shortly after registration opened, there are still plenty of interesting opportunities to spend part of your summer in the creative environment of the Sutnar Faculty.

Video production and photography

The video production course focuses on live broadcasting for the web or social media, practising various skills necessary for producing videos and live streams. The photography courses are far from being ordinary. One introduces cyanotype as a technique that combines traditional and modern approches, while another will enable you to look beneath the surface of a digital photograph and discover its algorithmic nature.

Japanese art, cultural identity and the path to self-awareness

The course on art, rituals and self-awareness, taught for the second time by Belgian guest artist Bart Van Dijck will bring you a strong transformative experience. Israeli artist Avigail Reiner from the Holon Institute of Technology will offer an interesting perspective on typography influenced by cultural identity. Nagisa Yagi from the Joshibi University of Art and Design will present an alternative printmaking technique currently popular in Japan.

Expressing yourself through materials

The jewellery design course will challenge you to explore the theme of identity in your artist´s jewel. If you are inclined towards working with clay, our sculptural portrait course offers an exciting opportunity. Or, you may be drawn to sculpture and the technique of plaster casting.

Exploring new technologies

ArtCamp also delves into current topics, including artificial intelligence. The AI in Creative Design course brings participants to the crossroads of art and technology. Additionally, the Virtual Reality course provides the chance to explore and craft meta-worlds or virtual portfolios.

There is more…

Coming to ArtCamp is not just about perfecting your skills and developing your talent in art classes. It is also about making new friends, exploring different cultures and creating lasting memories. We will also prepare an extensive free-time programme to make sure you get the most out of your stay in Pilsen.

The important question is: Will you join us this summer?

You can find all the information about ArtCamp on the summer school website. Updates, photos and videos can be found on Instagram.

See you in July.
