The second edition of the Sports Day attracted hundreds of participants to the university campus in Bory. In the hall of the Institute of Physical Education and Sport, students and employees of UWB could work up a sweat during a circuit training lesson, body shaping, zumba, yoga or a shuffle dance lesson. Those interested could also watch volleyball, have their body composition measured using the InBody device or take part in a workshop focused on correct posture and ergonomics at work.
"For example, stretching in a chair is important, especially for sedentary jobs. I will definitely try it," said student Eliška from the Faculty of Economics. "I like the fact that I can stretch my body at this event during working hours, and under professional supervision.I would like to see a course on correct posture and ergonomics at work offered at UWB during the year," added Kateřina Strnadová from the Institute of Language Training.
Outside, sports were played at several stations. Visitors tried fencing, step, or played disc golf, KanJam, Kubb or dodgeball. A parkour workshop led by experienced instructors was also an attraction. It was also possible to participate in a climb up the climbing wall.
"Compared to last year's first edition, we decided to move the whole event directly to the ZČU campus, so that the students and employees would be in, let's say, a home environment. The aim of the event is to get students and employees moving and having fun in an environment that is close to them," said Filip Kut'ák from the Institute of Physical Education and Sport, which organizes the event.
The evening also included the awarding of prizes - for example, for university-wide performances in the Monthly endurance race competition. Throughout the whole month of April, students and employees of UWB walked, ran or cycled more than 60 thousand kilometres. Every year the University supports someone in a difficult life situation with this competition. This year it was nine-year-old Vilém, who is completely immobile due to cerebral palsy caused by a malformation at birth. The exact number of kilometres walked was converted into money and this year's proceeds to help little Vilém amounted to 62 281 crowns. Vilém and his mother, a graduate of the Faculty of Education of UWB, thanked the athletes on the podium and received the cheque from rector Miroslav Lávička and dean of the Faculty of Health Care Studies Jiří Frei: "Thank you all very much. We are very grateful to all of you, you have moved not only your bodies, but also your hearts."
The Monthly endurance race was won - both in terms of walking and running and driving - by the Faculty of Health Care Studies with 15 326,7 km. But individuals also had the opportunity to shine in the competition. In the Walking and Running category it was, as last year, Zuzana Šloufová from the Rector's Office. In the month of April, she managed to walk an impressive 441,3 km. In the category of Cycling, scooter and skating, Martin Šesták from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, who covered 845,4 km in the whole month of April, "surpassed" everyone.
The results of the Rector's Cup competition were also announced. The Faculty of Applied Sciences won the award for its year-long efforts and performance from September to April, thus defending last year's first place. The Faculty won with 145 points. In second place was the Faculty of Law (127 points) and in third place the Faculty of Economics (105 points).
The sports programme in the afternoon and in the evening was complemented by performances of musical artists. The stage near the canteen was dominated this year by DJ Bowling, the band Month and Day and the evening was closed by the band Lucie Revival. In addition, a raffle was held for interesting prizes. Those who were so energized by the Sports Day that they did not want to go home after the event, could continue to the afterparty at the university club Ucho.
