The international conference Archeology of the 20th century (20th Century Archaeology) focuses on archaeological research of our recent past. This new specialization ranks among the most dynamically developing directions in archeology today. Through tangible documents, it brings new perspectives on historical events of the 20th century, such as modern military conflicts (the First and Second World Wars, the Cold War), crimes of totalitarian regimes (e.g. research into Nazi and Communist prison camps), transformations of the cultural landscape or ways of spending free time time in modern society.

The Department of Archaeology of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen is one of the leading workplaces developing this new sub-discipline in a broad international context.
