The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, the only public university in the Pilsen and Karlovy Vary regions, will elect its rector for the next four years. The election will take place at 10 am in the assembly hall of the Faculty of Education at Veleslavínova 42 in Pilsen.
The sole candidate is the current rector and mathematician, Miroslav Lávička. If re-elected, he intends to focus, among other things, on digitalizing the university, reviewing the rules for allocating funding among faculties and other university units, and securing more funding for research and education through national and European grants. His current term of office expires on 28 February 2027. He has held the position since 1 March 2023.
The rector is elected by the 59-member Academic Senate of UWB, which comprises university employees and students in a 39:20 ratio. The candidate must receive at least 30 votes, regardless of the number of senators present. If elected, the Academic Senate will submit a proposal for the appointment of the rector to the President of the Czech Republic.
