ZČU at the Olympic Games. How did our students do in Paris?

Sport Students Achievements

The Olympic Games in Paris are over and we can look back at the performance of our students from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. Let's take a look at their results and achievements.

This year's Olympic Games were an exceptional event not only for Paris itself, which hosted the world's biggest sporting event for the third time, but especially for all participants across the globe. This year, medals were handed out in a total of 32 sports and 329 disciplines, and among those who fought for valuable metals were 6 students from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. For them, participation in the Olympics was the culmination of months or even years of hard training and competition. Let's take a look back at their results:

Tereza Hrochová - 26th place in marathon

Tereza is an endurance runner with domestic titles in half marathon, cross-country and hill running. At the Olympics this year she competed in the marathon and ran to a great 26th place. She improved on her result from the last Games in Tokyo, where she ran 58th.

Tomáš Němejc - 33rd place in the 200 metres

Tomas, a two-time national champion and student of the Faculty of Law, took part in the 200 metres. Despite the strong competition, he managed to break into the top 33 sprinters in the world. This result is another step in his career and shows that he has the potential to improve in the future.

Marie Horáčková - 17th - 32nd place in archery

Marie from the Faculty of Education is a multiple national champion in archery and also last year's world champion. Although she did not manage to advance to the elite shooters, her performance was solid and once again she confirmed that she is one of the leading female archers in the Czech Republic.

Adéla Holubová - 31st place in cross country

The student of the Faculty of Health Studies and native of Touškov competed in the mountain bike cross country event at the Games. Despite the strong competition of cyclists from all over the world, she finished in a respectable 31st place.

Matěj Rampula - 14th and 23rd place in shooting

Matěj is a student of the Faculty of Applied Sciences competed in two shooting disciplines - rapid fire pistol and air pistol. In rapid fire pistol he took a nice 14th place and in air pistol he took 23rd place.

Jan Louda - second round in badminton

Honza from the Faculty of Applied Sciences competed in badminton. In the first round he won easily against Uriel Francisco Artig from Salvatore. In the second round, however, he ran into the Singaporean champion Kean Yew Loh and after losing 13:21, 10:21 he said goodbye to the tournament. Honza proved to be a great fighter who has great potential for the future.

The students performed well at the Olympics and deserve great praise. Their achievements are proof that the combination of academic education and sport at the highest level is possible and can produce excellent results.

The entire university is proud of its athletes and looks forward to their continued success in the future!
