A stylized letter "B" inspired by baroque ornament and stucco cartouches is the main element of the new visual identity for the long-running West Bohemian Baroque project, presented by the Plzen Region. The graphic identity was created by Daniela Vanišová, a student from the Graphic Design and Visual Communication studio at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, University of West Bohemia in Plzen. "My goal was to create a visual identity that would be dignified, attractive and at the same time motivating for discovering the baroque heritage of West Bohemia," explains the author.
Culture Councilor Libor Picka appreciates not only the result, but also the strategic decision to collaborate with the faculty: "I am glad that we gave space to the young generation of creatives, who approached the topic with great respect and a fresh perspective. I am also pleased that we are collaborating specifically with the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at UWB, which has a close connection to the culture of our region."
For the Sutnar Faculty, this is far from the first such cultural collaboration. "Our faculty stands on two pillars – interdisciplinarity and respect for tradition. This blend predestines us for a wide spectrum of collaborations. There are already quite a few with the Plzen Region and I am glad that our partnership has a stable character," emphasized FDU Dean Vojtěch Aubrecht, adding that precisely these projects demonstrate how the faculty prepares its graduates for real professional practice and confirms its position as a significant design institution. Fourteen days earlier, another Sutnar Faculty student also presented a new logo for the Winter Olympics for Children and Youth, which the Plzen Region will host in 2027.
The new visual style will be presented by this year's Summer Baroque Festival with the motto Experience Baroque! The festival has already launched with events in Mariánská Týnice, Čečovice and Klatovy. Visitors can look forward to interactive programs – from baroque celebrations through tastings of historical specialties to workshops of traditional crafts. The program continues with Flowers of Baroque in Svojšín, Music of Many Crafts in Plasy, and equestrian performances in Manětín and Tachov. The highlight will be the September Traces of Baroque in Blovice.
