Boundaries: Doppelganger is the 13th annual international symposium focused on photography and time-based media, accompanied by an exhibition organized by the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. In the context of the project's history, it is important to mention that the Boundaries symposium was founded with two objectives : to support the then newly established Photography Studio at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, which is now successfully led by internationally renowned photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková, and at the same time to create a stable platform in the region for discussion about photography and time-based media.
This year's edition focuses on the issues of identity, authenticity, and trust in visual communication in the age of digital manipulation, deepfakes, and information chaos. The symposium will take place at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen from November 19 to 21.
The accompanying exhibition Boundaries: Doppelganger (November 13–December 13, Ladislav Sutnar Gallery) will present works reflecting themes such as alter ego, simulation, imitation, and falsification, building on the legacy of important artists such as Claude Cahun, Andy Warhol, and Cindy Sherman. At the same time, it responds to current phenomena such as artificial intelligence, hyperreality, and information chaos.
