Behind the Encaustic.art brand is a collective of eleven artists united by their love of painting with hot wax, known as encaustic. Each artist has her own unique style and each has infused her paintings with her moods, emotions, current state of mind, and perceptions. Their artworks will be on display from January 26 to February 27 on the ground floor of the University Library of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, at the Bory campus.
Visitors will see works by Hana Borovičková, Jana Černá, Olga Dupalová, Dagmar Ettlerová, Jasmína Kahovcová, Marie Kielbusová, Miroslava Machová, Marcela Světlíková, Božena Šlajsová, Ivona Tatíčková, and Jana Tůmová. They can also meet the artists in person on Tuesday, January 27, at the exhibition opening, which begins at 5:00 p.m. in the library hall. The evening will include a live encaustic demonstration and musical accompaniment by Vít Kotora.
The Encaustic.art group began to form in 2004, when the artists started painting with hot wax at home under the guidance of Marie Kielbusová. As they themselves say: "Back then there were literally just a few curious women, and we had no idea where our creative steps would take us. In the following years, painting continued in creative workshops under the auspices of the Children and Youth Leisure Center in Lochotín - now Radovánek - where we still have our creative base today." Over the years, the group's composition has changed; some course participants tried the technique and mastered it as a one-off relaxation activity. Others have been painting for several years, with the most persistent approaching twenty years of encaustic work.
