UWB helps create a system that makes it easier for scientists to access and protect data

Cooperation Achievements Science and research

Czech scientists will have a unified system for securely storing and sharing research results thanks to the Open Science II project. The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (UWB) is one of the partners involved in building the system.

When scientists complete their research, they often struggle to find a way to store their results, share them with colleagues, or make them securely accessible to others. The Open Science II project aims to simplify this process by creating a unified system where research teams can securely store, share, and reuse their data.

The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen has also joined the project, contributing to the creation of so-called data repositories – online storage spaces where scientists can store the results of their research, from measurements and analyses to publications. These repositories will ensure that the data is clearly organized, available in the long term, and usable for further research, i.e. in accordance with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles.

UWB has joined with a financial contribution and expert support. It actively contributes in four key areas – materials and engineering, social sciences, humanities and arts, and sensitive data. The project also includes the development of tools that will facilitate the search and sorting of data using artificial intelligence.

“High-quality and effective management of research data is today a prerequisite for international cooperation and the creation of new opportunities for scientific activity. The implementation of the Open Science II project will enable the construction of the necessary infrastructure that will meet this need across disciplines,” said Jiří Hammerbauer, Vice-Rector for Creative Activities and Doctoral Studies at UWB.

Open Science II is coordinated by Charles University and involves universities and research institutes from across the Czech Republic. Its result will be a national system for storing and sharing scientific data that will facilitate cooperation between scientists and increase the quality and openness of Czech research.

The OS II project is co-financed by the European Union and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports from the Jan Amos Comenius Operational Programme under call no. 02_24_030 Open Science II and will be implemented by the end of 2028.
