Program for top athletes at UWB has a new member - handball player Veronika Dvořáková

Sport Students Achievements

This year, the UNIS programme is supporting 17 female and male athletes during their studies at UWB. To help them combine their studies and sports, the programme offers them a regular monthly stipend and professional care. Veronika Dvořáková, a handball player from UWB, is also a new member.

Handball player Veronika Dvořáková is studying at the Faculty of Economics at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. She played for Házená Kynžvart until the 2023/2024 season, when she finished 2nd in the Czech Cup and 4th in the MOL league. She currently plays in the 2nd Spanish League for Cicar Lanzarote Ciudad De Arrecife. This year she also won a bronze medal at the Academic Championship of the Czech Republic with her teammates from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. Veronika also participated in the Academic World Championships in Madrid, Spain and together with the girls won the 4th place. The handball player is also one of the mainstays of the wider Czech women's national team.

The special programme for student sportswomen and athletes currently brings together 17 professional athletes from UWB, and in addition to handball players, there are also representatives of archery, cycling, athletics or paraplanning. In total, there are five performance categories in the project - from A with a monthly support of 15 thousand to E with a support of 5 thousand. There are clear criteria for inclusion in the categories. The scholarship is not guaranteed for the entire period of study; students must defend their eligibility every season.

Veronika Dvořáková got into UNIS (university sport) as part of an extraordinary autumn selection, when a place became available after triple jumper David Jodl, also from the Faculty of Economics, who stopped his sporting activity due to a long-term injury.

The UNIS programme creates conditions that help successful and promising people with exceptional sporting performance to meet the demanding study requirements while pursuing sport training and participating in competitions. The programme was launched in 2020 by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the departmental sports centre VICTORIA VSC and is coordinated by the Centre for Physical Education and Sport of the Faculty of Education at the University of West Bohemia.
