The Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art –SUTNARKA– will be headed by its current Vice-Dean Vojtěch Aubrecht from January 2022. On Wednesday, September 29, all eleven members of the Faculty's 12-member academic senate voted in favour of the said Vojtěch Aubrecht.

Vojtěch Aubrecht, who was the only nominee, thus received the necessary absolute majority of votes. The current Dean Josef Mištera, who was the founder and head of the Art and Design Institute, from which the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art was established in 2013, run the Faculty for two consecutive periods and, therefore, could not stand in the election. Vojtěch Aubrecht will take office on 16 January 2022 and will head the Faculty for four years.

MgA. Vojtěch Aubrecht (*1972) worked for a significant part of his life in the Netherlands. There, he studied photography at the prestigious Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. He has been active in the field of artistic photography and fine art since the '80s. He regularly presents his artworks at solo and group exhibitions. He has been teaching at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art since 2008. Since 2012 he has been the head of the Studio of Applied Photography and since 2015 he has been the Vice-Dean for Internationalization and External Relations.

As Dean, he wants to engage in the internationalization and propagation of the international reputation of the Faculty. In view of the current development and challenges in the field of university art education, he will focus on interdisciplinary projects and cooperation. Taking into regard the nature of the University of West Bohemia, he would like to strongly support inter-faculty projects and research activities. Under his leadership, the Faculty will develop its role as an important partner of the City of Pilsen, the Pilsen Region, and related cultural institutions, such as the JK Tyl Theatre, the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra, and the West Bohemian Gallery.

The Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art was established on 1 September 2013 by the transformation of the Art and Design Institute that was founded by the current Dean Josef Mištera on 1 April 2004. The Faculty educates 700 students in 22 studios, organizes the biggest art summer school in the Czech Republic "ArtCamp" and has an extensive archive with paintings created by Ladislav Sutnar. Even though it is a young Faculty, it has very quickly earned a great reputation which crosses the borders of our state.

“I am really happy. Mr. Aubrecht is a guarantee of further continuous development of the Faculty, he is the person our Faculty needs at this time”, said the current Dean Josef Mištera.
