Almost three hundred high school students from all over the Pilsen Region came to listen to lectures on technical and natural science. The organizers of the event offered a total of twelve lectures from the fields of AI, quantum technologies, astronomy, physics, or mathematics.
The most successful lecture was given by the LASAR high school team, which dominated the global Conrad Challenge in Houston, USA, in April this year with an idea for restarting and deorbiting satellites in Earth orbit. The Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (FAV ZČU) offered the opportunity to look directly into its specialized laboratories. Dozens of interested visitors took part in a total of five excursions and looked into the laboratories of the Department of Physics and Mechanics, the robotic greenhouse at the Department of Cybernetics, saw the SMART TRAIN train controlled by brain waves, and learned about virtual reality. The chemistry booth was the most popular, entertaining participants with a variety of experiments.
Consider Science! was held at the Faculty of Applied Sciences for the second time. "This year's program is a truly amazing showcase of the most exciting topics that the natural sciences are dealing with right now," said lead organizer Jan Herzig. The event, which took place on 15 November, was supported by the Minister for Science, Research and Innovation Marek Ženíšek: "When I received the invitation, I did not hesitate, of course, because I consider this to be an absolutely crucial and important event not only for you but also for the entire field of science and research. It is important for us to have a connection between science and research and young people, especially if they ask for it themselves," added the Minister. Senator Jiří Dušek was also present, as were the Rector of the University of Applied Sciences, Miroslav Lávička, and the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Miloš Železný.
Since last year, the concept of Consider Science! has also been transferred to Brno. It is also enjoying great interest from students here. The initiative has also been appreciated by many teachers and principals of grammar schools from all over the Czech Republic.
