Electromobility and Teaching of Informatics. UWB opens new study programmes

Press Release University Education

The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (UWB) offers 303 study programmes to applicants this year. New is Electromobility and Intelligent Transport Systems at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Teaching of Informatics for Secondary Schools at the Faculty of Applied Sciences.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering of UWB opens for the first time this year the follow-up study programme Electromobility and Intelligent Transport Systems. "Students will be able to choose from three specialisations. Firstly, it is Electromobility, modern transport vehicles and their drives, secondly Construction and design in the field of e-mobility and last but not least Planning, modelling and transport management," explained Roman Pechánek, vice dean for educational activities of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. The faculty has already purchased two hybrid cars for the students to learn on.

The second novelty this year is the Teaching of Informatics for Secondary Schools, which will be taken over by teachers at the Faculty of Applied Sciences of UWB. This is a programme in which their colleagues from the Faculty of Education will also participate. "We are responding to the demand of schools for teachers of informatics, which is in short supply. However, we also teach standard Informatics, which is in great demand every year," said Libor Váša, vice-dean for study and pedagogical activities at the Faculty of Applied Sciences.

Candidates can now apply for both of these follow-up Master's programmes. In addition, UWB is also waiting for the extension of the accreditation of the follow-up Master's programme in Power Systems and Electrical Power Engineering with the specialisation in Nuclear Engineering Management at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and a new Bachelor's programme in Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is in preparation. "If we do not obtain accreditation by the end of June, we will start the admission process for these programmes the following year. In this case too, we are responding to the demand of the upcoming generation of students who are asking not only about sustainability but also about future employment in these areas," said Jiří Kohout, vice-rector for studies at UWB. The deadline for applications at most faculties ends in April.

Last autumn 2024, the first students were admitted to the bachelor's programmes Management and Digital Technology at the Faculty of Economics, taught in English in cooperation with OTH Amberg-Weiden, and Kinanthropology - Wellness Specialist at the Faculty of Education. Both programmes have been tailored to the Karlovy Vary Region and UWB plans to open them for the academic year 2025/26.
