On Wednesday, March 27, in celebration of Teacher's Day, which fell on the following day, representatives of the Pilsen Region honored 31 educators. Among those who received recognition, certificates of appreciation, and small gifts for their outstanding work was Iva Svatoňová, a teacher at the Language Preparation Institute of the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň.

She graduated with degrees in Czech language teaching, English language teaching, and art education from the Faculty of Education at the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň. For more than 15 years, she has been involved in teaching Czech to foreigners, both in language schools and since 2018 at the Language Preparation Institute of the University of West Bohemia. She has been involved in teaching Czech language courses for Ukrainian students and humanitarian courses for Ukrainian refugees. In 2016, she founded the educational blog "Obrázky ve výuce jazyků" (Pictures in Language Learning), focusing on the use of didactic illustrations. Last year, she published a handbook of the same name for teachers on how to effectively, engagingly, and legally use pictures in language teaching.

"We often underestimate how demanding the work of a teacher is, how difficult it is to find a way to connect with today's younger generation. It is precisely the educators in schools who teach our children not only knowledge but also behavior, communication, and empathy towards others. It is the educators who spend a lot of time with our children and instill in them many important life skills and ideas. I bow to them, they truly deserve great appreciation, and above all, they have my admiration for how often they also compare themselves with us, the parents," says Rudolf Špoták, the governor of the Pilsen Region, who presented the awards together with Deputy for Education and Sports, Vladimír Kroc."
