The memory of war veterans and their courage is highlighted by a collection organized by Paměť národa (Memory of Nations). It takes place throughout November, the month in which people commemorate Veterans Day on the 11th. The proceeds from the collection help veterans, resistance fighters, and opponents of totalitarianism through the Memory of Nations Assistance Center and support documentary filmmakers who record the stories of these heroes. For a contribution of 50 crowns, anyone can not only commemorate the heroism of past generations, but also contribute specifically to its preservation.
On the UWB Bory campus, collection boxes will be located in the lobby of the rector's office, at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, and in the University Library. In the city, you can support the collection, for example, at the Pedagogical Library on Klatovská Street, the Library of Health Studies on Sedláčkova Street, the Philosophy and Law Library in Sady Pětatřicátníků, the Kulturka coworking center, or the Ladislav Sutnar Gallery.
This year, Memory of Nations is also introducing something new – a Concert for Heroes, which will take place on November 11 at 7 p.m. in St. Bartholomew's Cathedral in Pilsen. The evening will combine music, spoken word, and memories of real heroes.
Actors Svatopluk Schuller and Marek Mikulášek will perform, accompanied by the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Miriam Němcová. The program includes, among other things, a melodrama by Tomáš Ille and Martin Pášma inspired by the life of St. John of Nepomuk. The proceeds from the concert will also go to the Memory of Nations Help Center and to the recording of memoirs.
This is the fifth time that the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen has participated in the collection. Contributions can also be made online or using the QR code on the collection boxes.
