The big ice hockey dream of UWB Academics Pilsen, the joint team of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen and the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Pilsen became a reality on Thursday 13 April. After beating Engineers Prague 4:0, the Academics became the champions of the University Ice Hockey League and could triumphantly raise the Jan Palach Cup on the ice of the LOGSPEED CZ Arena in Pilsen.

“Congratulations on this fantastic success. Everyone performed admirably and the whole university and I are very proud of them. The team has improved incredibly since last year and absolutely deserves the Palach Cup. Thank you, boys!” said Miroslav Lávička, Rector of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, who handed over the cup and celebrated with the team at the stadium.

In the exciting match, the Academics opened with Lukáš Folda’s goal in the first period; in the second period, two goals were scored by Mario Princl and one by Štěpán Říha. The third period saw plenty of chances on both sides, but to the delight of the home team, the score did not change.
