Open Science Week is an international event that promotes the idea of freely sharing scientific results. In addition to the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, universities such as Cambridge and Oxford are also participating. The program will take place from November 10 to 12 and will offer a series of online lectures on open science, data management, and related legal issues.
The University Library will actively participate in the program. Those interested can watch the entire broadcast in classroom UB106c in the Bory Library, where it will also be possible to discuss and consult topics related to open access. "This will be an opportunity for them not only to listen to the lectures on offer, but also to discuss the advantages and pitfalls of Open Science and consult on the use of the services offered by the library," said Klára Čapková, information specialist at the University Library.
The program will also include a panel discussion entitled The Future of Open Science in the Czech Republic, which will focus on how open science can be systematically integrated into the Czech research environment. The discussion will present proposals for measures that are being developed as part of an analysis prepared by the Technology Center Prague in cooperation with the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic and other institutions.
The University Library has been focusing on the topic of open science for a long time. It helps academics with Open Access publishing, research data management, and identifying so-called predatory journals. "Open Science represents an opportunity that, thanks to its emphasis on transparency throughout the scientific process, supports the creation of excellent results and the development of international and interdisciplinary cooperation," added Vojtěch Kaše from the CCS-Lab research center at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.
A detailed program can be found on the website of the Association of University Libraries. Registration is required to participate in the events.
